About the Event

Learning Objectives:

  • Define complex trauma.
  • Identify the seven domains of impairment in complex trauma as described by van der Kolk et al.
  • Identify at least three different treatment interventions that may be appropriate for clients with complex trauma.
  • To provide an overview of EMDR approach to trauma treatment in an outpatient setting.
  • To explore cases related to trauma and traumatic bereavement.
  • Gain basic understanding of the various experiences youth have while in foster care.
  • Show understanding how foster care experiences impact transition into adult hood or transition out of care
  • Utilizing Cognitice Processing Therapy (CPT) and Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) to address trauma experienced by foster youth.

Robyn Gobbel, LMSW-Clinical

Robyn has over 15 years of practice in family and child therapy experience, specializing in complex trauma, attachment, and adoption.  Robyn is a therapist, trainer, and consultant who recently relocated to Grand Rapids, MI from Austin, TX.  Robyn’s diverse clinical training includes EMDR (including EMDR adapted for children with attachment trauma), Somatic Experiencing, Theraplay, Trust Based Relational Intervention®, Circle of Security Parent Educator, The Alert Program® and Yogapeutics Aerial Yoga Level 1 Teacher Training.  Robyn has integrated these training modalities with a foundation of attachment theory and the relational neurosciences to create an attachment-rich, sensory-sensitive, and relational neurosciences supported healing environment for children and families.  Robyn consults, teaches, and trains extensively throughout the US, including as an instructor for the Foundations of Interpersonal Neurobiology Certificate Program at Portland Community College.  She was previously an instructor with the Adoptive & Foster Family Therapy Post-Graduate Certificate Program and has served on the working board of the Global Association for Interpersonal Neurobiology Studies (GAINS).

Angela Botello, LCSW-S

Angela M. Botello is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker Supervisor with 12 years of experience as a licensed social worker. She began her career working in the non-profit sector for different agencies in San Antonio. Angela has worked with numerous populations and settings, including hospice, adoption, teen mothers, geriatric, and psychiatric residential treatment. Angela is trained in various modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Eye Movement Rapid Desensitization, Cognitive Processing Therapy, and Child-Centered Play Therapy. In 2014, Angela was trained as a Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) Educator. Angela’s passion for foster youth, as well as domestic and international adoption, has shaped her work utilizing trauma informed care to aid families in building strong healthy connections while being mindful of trauma history.

Jennifer Hill, LCSW-S

Jennifer Hill, LCSW-S has provided psychotherapy in community mental health, hospice, domestic violence, and geriatric services since 2002 in Texas.  She has been Certified in EMDR and is a Consultant in Training.  She has provided supervision for LMSW's seeking their clinical licensure since 2009.  She has extensive experience in treating trauma with EMDR, CBT, and supportive therapy in group and individual modalities.

This conference will provide 5 continuing education hours.
